A new start-up based in London allows anyone to create their own 12 page magazine which may be intriguing to those who have always wanted to see their words in print.
Former ad executive turned blogger Russell Davies who is one of the backers of the venture, stated that most people do not think about creating their own magazine, but when they do most are drawn to the idea.
The group behind the project is called the Really Interesting Group and is made up by designer Ben Terrett, Davies, and a group of their software coding friends. It started when the group decided to print a magazine that contained the best photos and blogs from their friends’ websites in 2008.
The group used commercial printing presses which are not used during the day given the fact that the newspaper is still being constructed. So, the group made a small print run for their magazine and after finding out how cheap it was figured other people would be interested as well.
Some of the first clients of the Magazine Club were Wired UK, Last.fm, and the BBC. In fact, Penguin even used the magazine format to preview a chapter from Eoin Colfer’s Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
Editor in large of Wired magazine, Ben Hammersley, stated that the idea is quite exciting because it changes the world of online publishing and may possibly revive magazines which are one of the last print mediums still standing.
Thus, now those who want to rant about a local issue, try their hand at being a food critic, or any other group of frustrated writers have the unique chance to self-print and get their ideas out in the world.
